About BFDN.
Joanna Marcella (a London based knitwear designer) founded Black Fashion Designers’ Network (BFDN) with the aim to increase the visibility of Black and Asian fashion designers, bringing the crème of BAME fashion design talent to public’s attention. The project will be instrumental in launching projects within the fashion industry that will give it clients a platform to showcase their talents.
Why is there a need for BFDN?
There is a need to increase awareness of the achievements and contributions of BAME designers, that may find it difficult to raise funds, thus are more likely to abandon their business venture in favour of paid employment. The network acts as a catalyst for members increasing awareness, encouraging good working relations and partnerships whilst combating the feeling of isolation.
Our Aim:
Is to address the gap in the fashion industry for BAME Designers and Craft makers and to provide an international platform that supports and promotes innovative talent. We will partner with progressive and culturally aware supporters; we endeavour to increase the number and visibility of BAME creative talent. BFDN will encourage its members to reach their true potential in the global market, by showcasing and profiling individual design talent through media coverage, training and a forum for members to exchange and share ideas and experiences.
OUR PROJECT ENCOURAGES CULTURAL DIVERSITY AND IS OPEN TO ANY TO ANY DESIGNER THAT EMPATHISES WITH OUR VISION AND WISHES TO JOIN.
